About I was visiting friends in a an ocean-side area over the weekend and noticed these distant figures on the beach. They seemed so tiny and insignificant compared to the vast and pounding surf of the Atlantic Ocean.

Mel -- Thanks so much for your comments. There are interesting and fun things to photograph all around us, as your pictures prove. Who knew? A kitchen sink providing beautiful abstract art!
Whenever I am near the water, especially an ocean, I get that feeling that we are tiny specks in the infinite scheme of things. Despite that feeling, I lived "large" for the weekend with plenty of time to spend with my wife and close friends. Good food and good company and a few toasts to the past, present and future. We had a very good time.

Seascapes and ordinary objects, your portfolio is just my cup of tea, Jan. Thanks for your lovely comment on my kitchen sink! This photo of yours surely does show how insignificant a human can be when shown against the vast ocean! It looks like you had a good time, despite being overwhelmed by water. :)
Best regards
Mel

Thanks, Michele. It is snow, at least what was left after a thaw for several days of previous moderate weather.

Thanks, Roger. With the undertow you would not get far in this surf.

Doyle -- Thanks so much for your comments and the suggestion about altering the crop. You assumed correctly that this is not stitched, in fact I have never tried stitching -- something that is a yet to do item for me.
The ISO 800 is very high and this normally would have been taken at somewhere between 80 to 200 ISO. However, as I get on in years I am a trifle forgetful and had just been taking low light shots in my friends house and forgot to change the speed. I did not realize what i had done until I looked at the EXIF information. It was not very bright outside so aside from some noise in the capture, not too much damage was done.
I like the idea of more right-side crop and will play a bit with this picture this weekend to see how that looks. I agree that the figures just coming into frame or more off-center could give the final result more "punch" in the composition. Thanks again for the comments and the sample crop.

A very lovely panoramic image.. very simple and yet powerful. The 2 people do look like ants compared with the ocean--very insignifigant. I am curious if this is sea foam, or Snow on the sand ? It doesn't matter--just curious--
All the Best , Michele~

Wow Jan . . . this is a pretty cool image. It does give one the feeling of insignificance . . . like looking up at the starry sky from a sandy Arabian desert. These are the moments when one can sense the very presence of Divine power . . . and the opposite of those times when there is a feeling that we are in all control.

You have captured it VERY well and the title is introspective and apt.

The ISO strikes me as a bit high for a daytime shot and I am assuming this is cropped into pano and not stitched. I think I would consider pulling in that right side crop which (IMO) would throw the subject strikingly away from the center and reinforce your theme of insignificance. You know me, just something to consider. But that's just some thoughts for you to chew on . . . I like the posted version just fine too! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
