About This photograph (4824) was shot at a small club on lower Queen Anne (near the Space Needle) on 10 February 2007.

All luxagrphic techniques done in-camera. This shot involves camera motion and interposing a tumbler (glass) between the lens and the subjectd lights (a la Phillip Minnis and his marvelous glass dish).

I did adjust the levels a bit to bring out the colors. The original shot was done with a lot of candle light around and so contained an inordinate amount of orange tones. If I had with me a color temperature meter, a nice array of filters, and a larger glass I could have made this correction also in-camera, but isn't this what PS is supposed to be so good at?

Anyway, the important part is that all those distortions were created without PS (or any other software). They are from various lights within the bar.

Hope you like it. I know I do.

If anyone wants to see the original:

Quix - Thanks. Basically the work was done in the flick of my wrists (took two hands). I did a small amount of color work in PS. I'll post the original later this week.

hey James,

I see you have many great colourful results in your latest work. This one is lovely, I have a feeling I'm looking into water surface, very beautiful!

Wayne - Thanks. I was thinking that same sort of thing when I went with the title--forming and disolving.

Very cool James!
I like how it looks like smoke forming into somekind of chaotic worm hole to another dimention!

Ryan - Thanks. If you go back through Phil's work you'll find several shots he did using a large glass plate that has bumps on it. That's where I stole the idea. His work was really good. Not much like mine, however.

Wow thats another excellent shot! I love the colours and movement. Good idea with interposing the glass, I will have to try that out.
