Thank you so much for this kind comment, Onie. I´m glad that I could provide you with some more knowledge that you might never use, but still is fun to know:-))I also find it interesting learning about other cultures in this way. Sometimes I think about all the local knowledge and skills around the world that needs to get shared, and the internet is a good way to share some of it. Best wishes Annemette

What a wonderful, bright and cheery home you have Annemette... :) Beautiful... and Henry, I love the way he is just *there* ~~GRIN~~... Quite happy sitting in the snow...:)
Read your explanation, about the oak on your roof, to James... Very interesting Annemette... so, I thank you for a little something extra I now know...:)
Excellent as always...:)

Thanks for the lesson. I figured it was something to do with the roof but couldn't quite figure out what. See you around.

Thanks James. Those sticks made of oak are called "Rytterknægte" in Danish. They keep the heather in place on top of the roof which is there to make the thatched roof waterproof and also to prevent the sun from "burning" the straw. The sun is the worst enemy for such a roof meaning that on the northside it can stay for about 50 years, but on the southern side only for 25 before needing to be replaced. Over and out from Denmark:-)

Thanks Michele:-) Snow brings such an idyllic scenery. Yes, somewhere there are three meters of snow, so I can´t go anywhere today, and my husband hasn´t been able to go to work for two days(great;-)) Take care Annemette

Nice shot. Great color palette. What are those things all over the ridge line of the roof?

Thank you very much, Ralf, also for adding me as a friend:-) Well, the Danish winters are usually a blend of lots rain and lots of snow. This winter has been unusually mild, but now we have snow again. Actually there´s much more snow in Jylland than what you see here. Last winter we had snow for three months in a row, so it differs from year to year. Best wishes Annemette
