I love that shot ' Morning at PFA' that's a great example. I am understanding the theory of merging the 2 RAW images. This is something I can aspire to Doyle !! Thank You for your explanation and all of your support and time teach... Robbie explained the EV compensation to me too .. so I am understanding this as well . Take Care, Michele~

Hi Robbie,
WoW ! I love the picture you showed me of Dark + Moody ... It's very cool.. and thank YOU so much for the helpful technique with the EV compensation.... I can get a good idea of what I could do now using that!!
Thank You for your time to view my images and comment . I really do appreciate it Robbie. Everything is More Fun with friends... even if they are in my computer. I know photography is definitely a passion, but I also enjoy the people and correspondence ha! If You couldn't tell !! Sometimes my comment pages read like a soap opera , ha!!! Best wishes, Michele~

Challenging shot for even the most experienced photographer with the very dark shadows and the very bright light so close together. It's a dilemma. Here . . . your camera metered the light by default on the interior of the tunnel. The result is a blown out, very bright exterior. Had you metered the outside manually . . . you'd have an inky blot of darkness in the tunnel! This is the type of shot that an ev correction of 1 f/stop (about 3ev at 1/3rd stop each) might have been able to handle but the type of shot that RAW images scream for! One image not two - and then you'd adjust one exposure for the tunnel and then change to get exposure for the outside and - lastly - merge both the images. In that case they are identical EXCEPT for the lighting and contrast so they will merge seamlessly! I used this procedure for http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1188898 and you can see the explanation and original image there . . . It is my best example for the power of RAW images . . . Hey! You put up camera info too!! Wow . . .
Wow . . . I love seeing you try all these new things!!
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

Good to see you expanding Michele, nice image with soft muted colors in the tunnel.Your 'toy' sure is doing a great job. Take care Robbie Here is a tip for you for when you want to open up the shadows[not a put down on your image but just showing you a technique] Expose for as usual and dial in +ev compensation, check the image to see the result.Keep adding more until you are satisfied.Ev compensation button is the one with -/+ sign, hold it down while turning the control wheel. This was shot with a ev+3. http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1248530

Michele - Hope you were not at risk taking this but I love the soft shading and the framing geometry of the tunnel. When viewing it you really get a feel for the perspective and the sense of the downward dip. Nicely done. --Best to you, Jan

Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is a train, but sometimes it's just a mini-van.
Interesting photo, Michele. I think it would be even better with a longer tunnel (not in your control, of course.) I say that because to my eye the light entering the back of the tunnel, behind the vehicle, takes away from the effect of this picture. Good idea for a photo though, and well done with the tunnel you had to work with.
Jason.
