Another pattern that resembles extremely the well known holomorph functions in complex number theory, or the points series in numerical evolutions, or.. or.. or.. The list is endless!
As about the physical content itself: the nice thing to see is that the ice crystals do form curvy areas, though a crystal is not curvy at all.
Which brings us to the same thing like forming curves out of a lattice of light emmiting points, if the points are small enough and near each other, so that the jigsaw effects are so small that are invisible to the eye. That happens on every computer screen, where there is no real curve at all but rather small pieces of linear elements that taken all together approximate a curve well enough to let it look smooth.
Same happens in nature. No real curve around. Only small lienar pieces one after the other that taken all together cheat our eyes about their "smoothness".
So a real circle does not exist? Oh no, it does exist! In our mind! This is existence enough to calculate the orbits of the planets, the age of the universe, and above all that devlish thingie, pi, that is so real that is non-localizable. But this is another story, which perhaos some next photo might handle with.
Indeed the planets move in elliptic orbits around the sun. Still the fundamental mathematical object for posing such questions is the circle due to its very simple representation - taken as the general geometric shape representing a curve.
