Indeed, the width/height of the photo is "compressed" through the short focal length (about 30mm) that was used, which of course results in a corresponding expansion of the depth. Then focusing at the hyperfocal length results in almost endless DoF, which seems to be good for such photos, as it brings a big amount of details from almost here to infinity.
