Thanks for viewing and commenting, Michele. These devices have a big speaker built into the back and the sounds are recorded and pretty realistic. They also are flat so by removing the stand it fits into a briefcase or suitcase for travelling and run off of battery or A/C. Most of the major store chains carry them. Ain't technology grand? --Regards, Jan

Very interesting work here Jan ... I missed some of your latest obviously .. I am behind !! Wow ! Technology is really booming .. all of these sounds on something like a radio ?? I've never seen one of these before ... I bet it sounds pretty nice !
Best Wishes, Michele~

Doyle-- you get it!!! Thanks-- the idea is to stimulate thought as well as visual imagery; you are right on point. Now for the fake-out sounds for husbands (not you or me of course)I have heard that a small cassette recorder with pre-recorded sounds will work for phone calls but have not tried it myself. --Regards, Jan

Hmmmmm . . . great 'Thinker' image and a wonderful and creative, intellectually stimulating series Jan. NICE!
Ok . . . I was thinking about commenting about the Heartbeat - Resume' but see somebody else mentioned the 'off' issue and . . . welllllll . . .let's not go there. We have spring rain and tropical storm . . . and I like both. (Faint bird sounds in the tropical storm one). I see some people have commented that they prefer the real thing . . . but I honestly don't want a mountain stream running through my living room or bedroom. It happens already from time to time here in LA!
I'd like to see a better range of sounds . . . like airport terminal . . . loud restaurant . . . Busy traffic . . . hospital background . . . so . . . for those who need to call the wife (mind you, this doesn't apply to me) and make some sort of excuse . . . or call the office . . . well . . . the background noise would help! Huh? :)
Put me down for Spring Rain - 40 mins. - with a misting fan on oscillate in the corner of the bedroom and a blacklight under the bed with foliage decorating the headboard . . . and some green leaf cutouts on the wall. :)
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

Great thought provoking image Jan! Makes you think about the heartbeat of life and how that is on limited time! I agree with you- affluence as well as culture figures strongly. So very reassuring to see the beauty of nature figures in it- particularly the wonderful ocean waves!

Thanks, Joggie. I wish the same. I used this infernal device while travelling this weekend with my wife. We stayed at a fine hotel but had noisy next-door neighbors. Cranked the volume up and didn't hear a thing except the noise machine. Ironically-- we were Oceanside and used the ocean sound. It was 30 degrees F. and we could not keep the windows open. A bit like bringing coals to New Castle. --Best to you, Jan

A very simpleand at the same time deep insight to what reality is. I love the idea behind it. It's always adorable to convey a meaning in a very simple manner, but indeed not easy to accomplish.
Great job my friend,
God bless, Ardalan.

John-- I was born in January- so... my parents decided to name me Jan, as you know a common name in Europe. Never could figure out just exactly what they were aiming for when they named me. In any event, no Dutch lineage to claim. --Best regards, Jan

I agree with the direction you are going in. It can be a matter of form over function; our eye is attracted to useless products that have all of the "eye candy" to attract the consumer and yet not deliver on the promise. I think it happens every day in grocery aisles, hardware stores, jewelers selling hyped up watches, etc. Is it a Western World quirk?-- probably but I think it is driven by affluence as well as culture. --Best to you, Jan

I just got me a new mobile phone: a Samsung. 3 mm THICK !!! And I love it, because I allways wanted a phone I would not feel if it was in my pantspocket. So contemporary industrial design has certainly my intertest too. Plus if this device helps you to get to sleep: good for you! In my comment I was just wondering what we (the world, maybe just the "western" world) were doing to ourselfs with ALL those little machines. Electrical toothbrushes and knifes... do we really need all those things? Even if they look nice...? No critique, just wondering out loud...

Ali-- thanks so much for viewing and commenting. This machine is made by Homedics and I believe there are a number of other products similar to it on the market. It generates either white noise or specific themed sounds and helps with relaxation and sleep. I personally go for the White Noise and dislike the Heartbeat theme. --Best to you, Jan
