Ships offten remind us of pleasant moments of holidays or promise of hopefull travels to exotic destination. This is no such ship.
Back in 1997, as Albania opened its borders to the world, thousands of refugees poured through country borders, seeking own promises, own dreams, own hopes. The beautiful beaches of this, until then, mysterious country turned into a scene of human suffering and despair. Many of the desperate to leave aimed at Italy, the nearest and best known country of the west, due to the fact that Italian TV stations were widely popular among Albanians, including the flashy and promissing advertisings.
This ship was supposed to transfer hundreds of refugees. But it never sailed, as it was returned by Italian authorities. It is still there, lying dead and forgotten on the beach sands, a painfull reminder of days that still bring sad shadows on the faces of many Albanians whenever they think of days when their country witnessed own darkest fears.
