About Another shot of Kimberly towards the end of shooting. Thought I'd play with PS some, and color back in the jeans.

Samual: I'll be posting some of the bridal portraits here, and on my site as well.

Phillip, I like this portrait and the use of b/w and isolated color. I think it works very well. I also like the control of tones. Nice work. I look forward to seeing the bridal shots too (if you can share some of them?).

Hello all. Thankx for the suggestions.

I did in fact try to colour up the hair a bit, per Kristupa's suggestions, but for some reason it looked a bit on the orange side. I'm not sure why. When I pull up the color image, of course all the colors are there, and it's not that hard looking (hair color) that is.

With regard to the left crop being a bit tight, I agree. I didn't want to show her hand with a severe angle in her wrist since she was leaning on it, thus the tight crop on the arm.

I'm looking forward to shooting her in a bridal gown soon.

Regards,

Hey Phillip...

I might have her sit a little more diagonal to the camera so that her shoulders are not square on with the lens. Also, the crop on the left side doesn't work for me...it looks like she is falling out of the frame. Attractive woman and nice lighting.

Phillip this is a beautiful portrait. I like it very much. I too like it the way it is...but would be curious to see what it would be like with more color added to see if it works or not.

Are Kimberley's eyes blue...if so, just a hint of blue in the eyes or a hint of blond in the hair...but very little just enough that you know its there and that should be all you need to lessen the distraction Luis mentioned. You have to be very careful about adding too much color around the face when the print isnt toned or a warm toned paper isnt used.

I just handcolor using oils and havent tried my hand doing it in PS yet... have fun with it Phillip, *smile*...Maggie

Phillip,

I think you have a really nice portrait here. I like the hand colored blue jeans. That is a very nice touch.

Regardless of what others feel, I think that you have given Kimberly a nice portrait. It is something that catches my eye and keeps me looking at the image. I am enjoying the art of hand coloring and have been working in Photoshop to colorize some of my black and whites.

I think that this is a portrait that she would be proud to display in her home and on your website.

I may give that a shot Kristupa. Thankx for the suggestion.

This is much better than the previous one

And... the coloring effect works fine
I think you should add color "to balance" the blue color
like yellow, red, orange... or maybe the skin tone or the model's blonde hair

Luis, thankx for your comment.

Of course I have the original in Colour for her, but I thought I would have one of these printed for her to have as well. It might not be technically correct or appealing, however; that's the way I like it sometimes. A bit of left of center.

If she doesn't like it, she can always find another use for it can't she?

Regards,

I've seen this trick a lot, and it's a neat effect - but it doesn't work here. The color is a distraction, and doesn't add much to the portrait (it appears as if this shot was meant to be a portrait). Effectively, it is a splash of color in the bottom right corner of the screen, nothing more.
