About (Part 1 of 3) I was originally going to upload 5 photos but cut it down to 3 since I feel they're getting a bit repetitive.

33rd Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the infamous Corkscrew. The Corkscrew is turn 8 and 8A on this race track and is a gut-wrenching left to right hander including a 300ft elevation change within a very short distance.

Toyota Motorsports brought their current F1 car (which they are using for their Formula 1 season which is still going on), the TF106 from Cologne, Germany to run a couple of demonstration laps. While doing so, it beat the absolute lap record today by over 1 second. Although 1 second may not seem like a lot, in motorsports, it's a huge difference. The driver, test driver for Toyota F1, Ricardo Zonta will be doing more demo laps tomorrow and may beat the record again.

Motorsport shots don't garner a lot of interest here, but I hope those who are into it, as well as those who aren't can appreciate the shots - definately not an easy task panning cars easily reaching 200+mph. Plus this was my first attempt at panning race cars.

Shot was handheld, manual focus. Comments appreciated!

Hi Andre,
Thanks so much for your comments! It was a blast getting up close to the F1 car and seeing it speed around the track - definately something I won't soon forget.

I read up on Zonta's run on Sunday and unfortunately he didn't improve on his lap time but put on more of a show with burnouts and donuts. However, I'm happy I was able to be there live when he set the lap record =) Funny thing about the Corkscrew is that I've been to Laguna Seca 3 times but never went up the hill to check it out (although I was actually a passenger on the track the first time I went). Definately one of the most unique turns of a racing track!

Hi Toshi,
I'm glad you got to see the latest F1 technology at Laguna. They are quite a sight! Super impressive. I'll bet that track record goes down another second before they are finished.
As far as the image goes. It is a beauty. You got the car nice and sharp with that subtle creamy blur effect on the road, that looks so good. I managed to get a similar effect on a few from Moss Corner. The blurred marks on the road sort of blend to give a nice sensation of lighter than air speed. The Corkskrew is one of the great corners in racing! I remember some wonderful shots of the Can-Am cars from the mid sixties caught in the middle of the Corkscrew! A very photogenic place.

Thanks Kevin!

The series of photos will be Ricardo Zonta going through the Corkscrew - I may also put some of the stationary shots I was able to get when the car was in the pits. Thanks again for the comments.

Toshi,
Very nice capture my friend! I really like the angle and the feel of speed that this photo shows. I can't wait to see the others in the series.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Hugo, thanks a lot for the comments. The angle was definately tricky because of all the other photographers there and two ill placed trees right in the panning area. But I was happy with the shot(s) I was able to take.

Hi Toshi,

Great feel of speed, and a well handled photo. Not the easiest angle to take a good shot of, but you did very well!

Cheers,

Hugo
