Hi Jessie, that's about what I had in mind, so you still have some detail of the ripples in the light part, but it still gives Lillie some "head room". Dave.

thank you, dave! i appreciate everyone's help here. i am learning so much. here's a cropped one - i took abt 1/6 of the photo off, of the top. would you take any more off??

thanks, doyle! yes, she is certainly well-loved (that is better than spoiled, right? haha).
this photo is my best learning experience here on gather so far. thank you - it was a very dreamlike evening. i would love to have had a sharper focus. she moves so quickly that not much happens in photos with her. they are usually sort of blurry unless i beg her to be still. you know the drill.
yes, i loved the ripples, too. the dark things were shadows of trees across the lake and i certainly agree with your cloning them out - they DO distract.
thank you, thank you!!

I like this shot of her, Jessie! Another way to address the exposure issue would be to just crop a little off the top so the difference in colour isn't quite so dramatic and Lillie not quite as centered in the image. Dave.

What a cutie! The bonus shot of her on the bank makes it quite clear that this little dolphin is quite aware of whose finger each person is wrapped around!
On a technical level . . . the softness of the focus does portray a dreamlike feel to the image but is more distracting than helpful... Sharper focus would almost certainly have helped here. The light, though, is another issue. I happen to very much like the way the light level increases as you near the top of the shot. It gives a sense of reflective surface and the ripples you captured were a perfect focal point. To my eye, the upper left corner and to a lesser extent the upper right corner have darker areas which could both be cloned to even out the composition.
This is a great shot Jessie! My opinion is - it's a keeper! ;)
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

thanks, gentian! the light was strange that night - it was a whitish sunset. here's another shot from that night. i am not so sure it was overexposed as it was the light. what do you think?
