About It amazes me how dozens of little bars only as wide as their dooway can all hope to make a living crammed into such a tiny area.

scary, isn't it, how being foreign is SO easy there, i mean, sticking out?! i would love to see an evening shot!!

Maybe I should go back a little later, Jessie, and try to capture that magic evening light when the signs are all illuminated...? I wouldn't care to go in, though. You really need to be introduced by someone. If you go in as an unknown, you can be forced to pay an unreasonable amount... easy for them to slide into clip-joint mode even if they aren't that normally. Or so I hear...

roger - i like this shot a lot. i wish that we could see it on a busy evening, too!! the closed doors/gates make it look melancholy. hardly any green, besides that tuft of grass or two down the way. great shot!!

Thank you, Ciprian. To answer your question, I am afraid I have to say "not much." Digital, for all its advantages, doesn't live up to the fun, simplicity and ease of film... and I sorely miss my wide angles! But these are early days. I am still trying to master the user's manual!

for some reason, i really like this image... visually it is very appealing. Your about adds to the image.. I always wonder how people make a living in different places I have visited. good work

Lovely angle and as stingRay put it, it is indeed a great insight into Japanese suburbian life.

How are you enjoying your new camera?

Regards,
Ciprian

My what a commenter you are, Ray! Thanks again. Yes, claustrophobia would rather spoil things in these little "holes in the wall." Most of them are no wider than the doors that open into them! And some of them squeeze a staircase to the place upstairs into the same space!! Argh!!!

Again, another amazing insight into the cultures of faraway Japan. These are not the best of places to visit if you suffer in any way from claustrophobia:):) That's three great photo-journalistic street shots my friend, thank-you for sharing. Cheers to you Roger......Ray
