Hi Jessie and thanks for the comment . . . no reverse is possible here without very significant photo-shop merging which I seldom do. The motion of the water is much more obvious closer to you than farther away . . . the distortion is directly related to that motion . . . so the closer it is . . . . the more it is blurred. :)

i see what you mean, now! this is such a great shot, great composition. were you able to reverse it and have the front boats be in focus and the back ones fuzzy, or was the water too crazy? incredible shot, doyle! i swear, is your camera just BUILT into you? you find the coolest shots.

Wow! Are you kind to me or what? Front Page was a bit of a stretch (IMO it would be nice but think how many GREAT images get put up daily). I think this may be my favorite Blurry Project image too. I like the crisp / blur alongside each other, the diagonal composition, etc . . . and the kind comments the picture has generated to me from people like yourself.

Nice Doyle! I LOVE this shot! I must have woken up on the right side of the bed this morning because I just told Marlyce the same thing about her photo! But they are both great!
I love all of the boats in focus in the background and I love the twinkle of lights around those boats in the background and the reflections in the water and the blurred boat against the crisp dock...I'm trying to think of something to critique here, but I can't find anything! I won't be surprised to see this on the front page! Great job!

All three port pictures are great but this is definitely my favorite! Because of the coloring, the composition and the blurred boat giving me the sense of wavey motion.
Very well seen!

It's OK, Doyle, I'm used to being called Doc. Thanks for caring. Personally we're OK as long as the other side does not deploy & fire very long-range rockets, which he has not done so far. Despite the world press (except for once the US) we deeply feel (80% of our people, despite civilian losses) that we have to carry out this thing with Lebanon, as Hezbollah is the spearhead of fundamentalist Muslims & not beating it & implementing UN resolution 1515 (I think) would be fatal for us & mark the beginning of fundamentalism taking over, not just us. Europe has not yet realised the extent of that danger. Take care, Rafi

Mike:
Thanks for the comment, firstly. I always appreciate when people look at my portfolio and even more when they comment.
And Second: Yes, I used a tripod . . . while I was once on a State Championship Rifle Team and qualified as an expert, I can't seem to hold steady like I did thirty years ago. I do ok . . . but there's not a prayer for any handheld image over a second . . . especially depending on the lens you're using. I know nobody that could handhold a 15 sec. shot and would use a tripod for even the 2-sec shot you mentioned. As little as a heartbeat of movement will throw it off.
I also use a IR remote shutter release. This way . . . the camera isn't even touched. A cable release would work as well but I have a thing for toys . . . :)
Movement will cause the image to soften . . . any movement. Tripods are inexpensive . . . I recommend one for ANYONE who is trying slow shutterspeed shots.
:)

Nil: Yes, this is a long exposure. 15 seconds. Thanks for your comment . . . it was my intention to capture the motion of the boat and to use the blur from that motion to enter an image in the blurry image project . . . while keeping the dock clear and focused.

Michalis: Yes, I HAVE used a tripod for all these shots. I find it very difficult to believe that a focal clarity can be attained by anyone in a 15 second exposure with an 18-200mm lens if it's handheld. It's possible, I suppose . . . but doubtful.

Dear Doyle This is a beautiful nightphoto with lots of mood. I like the reflections in the green water. A plesant image that makes me want to go out fishing in the night:-) Best wishes, Annemette PS: You´re right! Had we known each other earlier, it would have been great fun meeting each other when we´re in L.A. I just think people would get fed up with the four of us using our cameras constantly:-)))

Excellent Doyle....great movements in the lower-middle sector and enough static elements in the foreground and far off background to demonstrate your purposeful intent. I love the perspective of this study and the cornerpiece of the quay has great detail and texture. I love the twinkling stars of light in the background and the amount of interesting detail revealen by them. I am pleased to read that you will return to this project at a later date my friend. My very best wishes to you as always....Ray
