City - Nortonville State - CA Country - United States
About
Nortonville was one of five communities working the coal mines near present-day Antioch, CA. This barn, a cemetery, and some mine tunnels are all that remain. Today, the area is part of the Black Diamond Mines in the East Bay Regional Parks. You can tour a restored portion of mining tunnels, hike up the hill to the Rosehill Cemetery, or just enjoy the urban wilderness with hiking trails covering the 6000 acres of this preserve. If you'd like to see more of the Black Diamond Mines, see my photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/misterken/sets/72157594169747304/ or at http://www.berkeleycameraclub.org/bcc/field_trips/index.html .
