About The Last Batch of Thunderstoms we had roll through Prescott, Produced some Awesome Lightning.

Here is a Tutorial on how to Capture Lightning.

First thing you need to do is Wait for a Good Lightning Storm(DUH! lol)

Find a Spot that is Pitch Black.
Set your Tri-pod up.
The Speed of your Lens Doesn't really matter. The Shot are Taken at F-13 or Higher.
I use a 24-70mm F2.8

The use of a Shutter Release is VERY necessary.

Set you Carera to Bulb mode and Compose your Frame.
The Easiest way to Compose a Night time shot without any ambient lighting is to use the brightest Flashlight you have and shine it of the closest object you have in the frame(Manual focus).
Once you have all that done, Turn off the flashlight and press and lock the shutter release.
Once the lightning flashes Release the shutter lock. Repeat until you think you have enough shots.

This shot was taken with the following recipe.

Canon 5D
Sigma 24-70mm EX-DG2.8
Slik Tri-pod.
Canon Shutter Release.
Shutter Speed= as long as it took for the lightning to flash.
ISO- 200
Focal length=52mm
Cropped in PS and Posted.
Thanks for Viewing
Best Regards

Thanks for the "recipe".

Great image of the lightening bolt. The power of these bolts is awesome. Nothing like a lightening or thunder storm.

Awesome capture Sam. The silhouette of the trees in the foreground add a nice touch to this image. And a very informative and useful About.
