About Laura brouht me to the idea to do something in B&W again, what is a better object than the replica of this 16th century ship.

Thanks Doyle, what a compliments on this photo. I'm glad you liked it, and good your wife mentioned. When you go a few pages back in my portfolio, I have posted there the back of this ship in full colour, very detailed, and in the about all about this ship and building it.
Lots of people died on those long journeys hundreds of years ago. No fresh vegetables, and rotting water were the cause of dead, because people suffered from to less vitamins and got all kinds of deseases.
Thanks for commenting.
Next weeks no posting from my side, I have my Hollidays the comming weeks.See you later.
Take care,

Klaas

Sheeeesh Klaas! How did I miss this?? Marlyce told me you had it up but I somehow missed it. Thank goodness she mentioned it. This is amazing. VERY well done, outstanding choice in B&W with a good tonal range and exquisite details. The subject is wondrous and amazing too. A real taste of history here, my friend. I couldn't imagine that being home for months or years at a time. I would love to be able to see it in person . . . but with this picture, I get the next best thing. 7/7 and Well done, my friend!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

You're right, when they were ready building the tradeship the Batavia, they deside that the warf should stay open, to learn young peaople without jobs the old carpenter methods they used about 4 or 5 centuries ago. They also use chainsaws and stuf like that, but the rest they do it the old way. They work with volunteers and people who are jobless, and it takes about 10 years or more, and in the old days they build it within the year.
Kind regards,

Klaas

Thanks Klaas, for the description ,it sounds quite exciting ..but I suppose people do not build similar ships nowdays..although it could be interesting to save the old tradition of building..and to have new ones made in traditional way..it is like with embroidery...it is almost impossible to find time to do that as it used to be done before.
Kind regards
Meldijana

Hi Meldijana, I'm glad you liked this one. This ship not only for looking, you can go inside, touch everything, visit the warf, look at a film how it was build and so on. You can also look on the warf were they now buil a 17th century warship, the flagship of admiral "Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter". Very interesting as well, al the drawings were saved, so they can build an excact copy.
Kind regards,

Klaas

Thanks Mary for your compliments, it's a wonderful ship indeed, you really should visit our country and the ship ofcourse. You would like it even more when lookning on the inside of the ship, you can also see the re-building of another famous old ship, the 17th century warship of Admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter. I'm glad you like it.
Take care, have a nice sunday,

I feel very honored Marian. Thanks for making it your fav. It's a very beautiful ship, they rebuild this ship in 7 years the traditional way fromwhat they know from old models and details from the discovered wreck before the coast of Britain. You really should visit our country and ofcourse the ship. They now rebuild a 17th century flagship of Admiral Michiel Adrianenszoon de Ruyter.
This probably takes another 10 years, they're already building now for 5 years.
Have a nice sunday,

Klaas
