Hi Larissa, I find that sometimes in situations like this, you can adjust the small areas only in Photoshop, using the lasso tool, while leaving the rest alone. It doesn't work all the time, but sometimes, you can get some more detail. I only know this because someone else here expained it to me last year :) Andre

You are absolutely right, Terry! I love NY, especilly downtown, like Soho, Greenwich Village, it's so many different cultures there living side by side, so alive area, China town, little Italy, Tibetian restaurant, greek, french, german, mideterenian, indian, japanese....and one world for that -New York. Cheers, Larissa

Thank you, John for you comments. You are right, i didn't have time to compose that shot, people don't like then you taking pics of them. Unfortunately it's just one shot. Cheers, Larissa

There's a lovely vintage feel to this image.
Just a thought on the composition: I wonder if it might be even stronger a little to the left? I realise this is not the sort of shot you can go back and take again, but maybe you have others taken at the same time. The reason for suggesting this is to move the chap leaning on the railings a little off-centre, to lose some of the less interesting detail on the right and to include the railings on both sides of the steps in the image.

New York is really a whole world unto its own. These look like they could have been taken 50 or 100 years ago. Nice work.

Larissa, Nice composition and toning in this street scene of a much photographed area. I have to say that i do agree with Jezabel about maybe just a little too much brightness around the man's face and shirt. The face is so important to these kind of street scenes and this is the kind of thing that separates a very good shot from an excellent shot. Your image next door "Manhattan Age" also suffers from the same situation. Just a touch too bright on the ladies faces, making their white/grey hair blend in with their skin tones. As I say they are very good shots, but could be excellent if more detail was present in the subject's faces. I don't mean to sound negative. It is the way I see it on my monitor. Andre
