Marcus: I will only add further to your confusion. The true crop factor on the Canon 1D MkII is 1.255. The nominal focal length of the 500mm lens with 1.4X is 700mm. With the crop factor x focal length (1.255x700) we get a 35mm equivalent of 878.5mm rounded up to 880mm equivalent. If the crop factor were truly 1.3, your first answer, 910mm, would be correct. It would not be 1.3 crop + 1.4 magnification, it should be 1.3 crop x 1.4 magnification. Thanks for your kind comments.
Beautiful capture Fred, I love the Egrets with nesting plumage. I have a question for you, a 500mm with a 1.4X = 700mm, 700mm on the 1.3 mark II crop = 910mm, but combine the 1.3 crop + 1.4 converter = 1.7 X 500mm = 850mm, I was trying to figure out the EFL and got confused :) whatever the case lots of reach and a Excellent capture..
