It's incredibly sharp - hard to do at macro level (well anyway. The use of colour is just fantastic, not overdone but enough to make a huge impact. The white makes this scream at you. It is a shot that would draw people if it were in a gallery. I really like your work.

Martin (shyfox?)

Thanks for your input really appreciated.

I think I may re shoot this one, when i do I'll let you know what the settings were (The file hasn't recorded the data as it was minipulated in Photoshop). i can tell you that i asked the model to wear really dark eyeliner and mascara and i know the shutter speed was 1/125, think the aperture was F8 from memory. The shot was completely overexposed using flashheads left and right set at full to bleach out the face. I've included the original shot below. I totally didn't look at the eyebrow thing, i wanted to include as much of it as possible, it seemed to add to the composition somehow, not just an eye floating in white space. Anyway got carried away with the colours, which were simply manipulated using colorize and Saturation in Adjust Image "colour and Saturation." Although prior to cropping, the main image had a bit more work to create the diffused appearance.

P.s You could overexpose in PS using brightness and contrast if you don't get it right in Camera. Good luck.

I have a question Rick. What was the exposure and shuter settings, and what did you meter your lights to.
Here goes my critique and opinion.
I want that info so I can use the technique.
Can I say more?
Was this retouched in PS? The only thing I might change is the crop. The eyebrow does look a little odd. Either include it or don't.
Definitly a 9 over all. As a project for color, it's a 10!

ps (not Photo Shop) I really would like to know all that stuff. If you post it here I will read it here tommorow. Thanks

Ricky,

I'm interested to know what made you choose an eye to address a 'colour' assignment ? My brain just wouldn't have fired that way at all :-)

for that reason alone I find it a really interesting piece

well done
