Steve,
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like them both! It's a tough one. For me, it's a gamble to post both versions, as the image may lose some it's creative force.. maybe.
Thanks again for your comments! Much appreciated as always!

Wow! I don't know if I like this or the black and white version better. They're both terrific. I guess since there's no law requiring somebody to like things to different degrees, I can say that they are equally wonderful. The palette is incredible. It's nice to see that someone else appreciates flowers in their decline. Best wishes, Steve

Michael,
thank you very much for such a great response to this image. I'm glad you found dreamlike state that I was aiming for. It started as a medical b/w, but when I got infront of the screen, it became more painterly...ala Saudek. I attempted the b/w with all guns..but I found myself wanting to go back to the color... that's when my wife walked in, just as I uploaded the b/w, and she said, "you going to do the color next, I like that one more". :)
I do love playing with perspective. I'm glad that you picked up on this. either some people are not catching what is wrong with it, or they can't put their finger on it. it's right up there w/ a trick I do for feature films... load the reel flopped. it's whole new persepctive. love it!
Carol Watson! yes.... I have seen her work. The bulls eye!
Yes...I am endlessly dreaming... sometimes of new lenses...but for the most part, it's of an image.
thanks again Michael, and thank you so much for taking the time to honestly view, and comment on this image!
cheers, -Joel

Joel:
I think you have the soft tones down, I'm getting a sense of your personal style. Very, very natural and gifted compositions.
Good lighting, colors are muted as well as the tones. Kind of a nice sensibility that I always kill in my photographs. You might find a kindred spirit in Carol Watson out of Texas.
Left receding to right in perspective, freaky...
The rich tones of the color make it more successful than the black and white, this is not often the case for some photographers.
I get the sense that even the ordinary can be placed and lit to bring out a somewhat dreamlike state in these photographs. Maybe your work has you endlessly dreaming?

You're funny!
Ya know, that's my day job, looking at digital images, and fidning ways to make them more fantastic, or pefect. Sadly, for 15 years, you sometimes forget where and when you're pointing out things. Sad...I know. So i guess i've found a home away from home in looking at images on UF! haha! ;)
honestly, I dig that you see why something is not right. Most people do, i guess, but YOU point it out! (you would do well, or be killed in your sleep where I work ;) )
thanks again for the always entertaining comments Petal!! :)

You know Joel, the one sentence I hear often is: (Oh boy) You see EVERYTHING!!! Sometimes it's a compliment, but more often people feel 'caught out'/busted... I can't help it, even though I wear glasses, my eyes work pretty well... LOL!! My first impression was... something isn't as is seems to be, so I tilted my head or send it on my ear as you put it... and then it looked 'right' so the 90 degree turn was kind of ahhh that's why/what he did to it... ;-D About the rubberband ball... who knows... LOL!!

You gotta tell me how you see it! thank you so much for the wonderful paragraph (novella?) review of my dead flower that was sshot at an angle, and rotated just to send viewers on their ear again wihtout knowing it :)
Gonna agree with you... the color version has more character than the B/W.
thanks again! ...and why are there not more pictures of your rubberband ball? :)

Fantastic floral!! Wonderful soft colors/tones, nice display... by placing one of the stamen a bit lower it looks less static, great detais... well captured!!! Super composition... by turning this shot 90 degrees you've achieved a kind of 'unreal look'/a bit of a: 'something isn't quit right' feel because of the way we're looking at the image and the lens distortion that's 'working against it'... well that's how I feel when looking at it, but I could be wrong (nehhh... LOL)!! Good one... and as you can tell I prefer this version over the B&W one... more depth to it this way.... ;-D
