Quick comment.. I have read some reports on the galgo situation in Spain, however, those are isolated cases, the situation is not insitutionalized. The spanish government does not condone the killing of dogs. The Turkish government does. Unfortunately, here in Turkey, until very recently there were no laws regulating animal wellfare.. even now that the law has been passed there is not a clear procedure to apply it.. so the killings continue. And I am not talking a dozen of dogs.. but hundreds.. and hundreds.. and then some!

Dear Ivan Thank you for the link to the Turkish shelter for dogs and cats. Itīs so admirable (that you? are)doing this work for the poor animals providing better lives for them and slowly trying to change the populationīs attitude towards the animals. That also happens in Greece, and Danish vets work in Tibet in order to sterilize the dogs, so the population of wild dogs are not too big. Poison and other awful methods of killing dogs have been proven wrong through time because new wild dogs take over the territories, so no doubt that this is the way forward. Actually and sadly itīs more common in the world that animals are treated poorly than the opposite.:-( Even in Spain their galgos are being hung by their neck in a tree suffering and dying slowly, being burned alive or if they have been good huntingdogs, they just get shot. We humans have a lot to be ashamed of, and we can hardly call ourselves civilized when treating other beings so poorly. All the best, Annemette
