Anne, you got it right--he was coming over a rise, and there was a valley between him and the hill that forms the background.

Impressive. All the rechnicals are done well...good DOF, composition and balance and exposure and interesting subject matter.

I really like this one. I think the face could use a little more focus, but it almost doesn't matter. I love the simplicity of the composition and the colors. Something about the background makes me slightly dizzy...but in a good way, giving this depth...was he on a hill and the background was much lower? That could be why. Anyway, good job!
