Very creative. I like how the boy in front is cut off. Adds to the dark feel of the image. Great composition and angle of the image. My eye travels across this picture very nicely. The boy in the back with the red shirt on draws one into the image right away. Another eerie feel that I hate to admit I really like.

sometimes reading about the technique can be rather off putting just play about you will soon see the effects ,however keep it simple makes it more natural its to easy sometimes to do to much to a shot.good luck u will need it !!!

Ina, I agree that Usefilm's format elicits valuable feedback and the pleasure of knowing others are viewing one's photos. Wide exposure is not a guarantee but is largely due to diligent networking. I always feel that I am remiss in that respect and falling behind. So it's either "fish or cut bait!" I have to admit that I have started keeping somewhat larger copies of my photos on Pbase. If inclined to refer someone to my portfolio, I send them to my Pbase url. The viewing is better! It appears to be a lonesome site in terms of feedback but the viewing or "hit" rate is about the same, for me.

To continue my thoughts, Eb, I think this is what's keeping UF alive, and different. Many other sites are large storage houses of pictures, with few comments here and there. People post and have no idea who's looking. This is mainly why I like it here :)

"Housekeeping on Usefilm takes a lot of time! One has to leave some time for photography!"
It's a catch 22, Eb! There should be professional commentators - LOL and the rest of us should go out and take pictures! I agree, although I enjoy writing too, I have probably written a novel since I've started on UF :)

They were really happily going to outdoor practice, I made it look like that, the picture is very far from reality! Thanks very much for your comment, Aram :)

Ina, I am very happy to receive thank you messages, but I don't expect them. Housekeeping on Usefilm takes a lot of time! One has to leave some time for photography!

Thank you very much Eb for all your kind comments, I hope you don't mind that I'm sending you a single message, it's not for lack of words, but rather so you won't get 4-5 thank you emails from me. I really appreciate each visit and all your comments :) Best regards, Ina

Very creative layering of the background, Ina. The imges are very solemn. The overall effect is evocative but not sure of any words - it's a photo and words are not necessary!

Thanks Rina, I'm barely starting in Photoshop. I'd like to do more elaborate stuff, but I like to work with people and lack images. The doubling idea came from the already doubles that were there: two boys, two sets of cymbals. I'm happy that this worked out :) Cheers, Ina

Very clever doubling. Almost expect to see the ghostly looking 'twins' slowly turn their heads this way! :-O

I do so love your post work techniques Ina :) Not too sure about the first boy's head being cropped half way, however it does strengthen the feeling of movement in that direction. Like he's walking out of frame but you've managed to capture his ghostly double just in time...

Super!
Cheers
Rina

Ina Nicolae Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 2/7/2006
Thank you very much Andre for your in-depth critique! I did exactly as you said, I doubled the image because I noticed there were a number of "doubles" in it: 2 boys, 2 sets of cymbals, and both were parallel with their heads slightly tilted down, so I enhanced this by adding another layer, and accentuating the tilt by inclining the whole image. Thanks very much for your great observation :) Best regards, Ina

Ina Nicolae Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 2/7/2006
Wow, what a great interpretation, Ann! Ghosts with cymbals, that would be really, really scary! I don't even want to think what a horror movie that could make! Imagine being awakened in the middle of the night by cymbals, that would make my heart stop! LOL - These kids if you saw the original, were happily going outside for rehearsal at an outdoor stage. I thought when I saw the fact they were somewhat parallel, both with their heads slightly down, and both had cymbals, that there was "something" there worth repeating. Thanks very much Ann :) Cheers, Ina

The way all the heads are pointing downwards gives this image a darker mood Ina even though I know they are on their way to a happy practice session. You've turned this from a happy scene into a slightly sinister mood which is fine because it shows jsut how versatile an artist you are. The ghostly forms are returning to their home "Under the Stairs" after a hard night of haunting with those cymbals. I'm scaring myself now. LOL Great work Ina. Very creative.

Cheers - Ann :)

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 2/7/2006
A very haunting effect Ina,
Very original! The angle they are skewed at helps to create the dreamlike scene. This is one case where the multiple image works very well. You didn't use it just for the sake of using it, but to be an integeral part of the theme.

I think this shot will grow on people and needs more than one viewing to be appreciated.

Thanks very much Rashed, it's Photoshop two layers. I don't think you can do double exposure with the 20D, but you can take up to 5 burst shots very fast. Best regards, Ina

Very nice arrangement. Not an instrument one sees everyday which makes this photo unique. U always have a way of transfering a simple photograph and creating a picture with interesting themes. Nice to see local youth taking part in creative activities.

Thanks very much Tracey, I played around with this for a while, I liked the fact that there was some repetition (2 boys, 2 sets of cymbals), and I decided to double it. Best regards, Ina

very nice Ina!!! The color really sets up the mood for this... it's very ghostly sort of a 2nd self anomaly.

Thank you very much Joggie :) I only made it look this way in PS - in fact it was a sunny scene, and they were going to an outdoor stage practice - as part of a marching band that opens the Canada Day parade (July 1st). Best regards, Ina

A very interesting and almost surreal combo Ina. It has a very sombre mood - almost as if they are on their way to play at a funeral (hope not!!). Regards.
