Beautiful combination of blue/silvery and copper (golden)tones of the gear and fragile web over them /in the period of the day just before the sunset ,these colours could be quite natural. In reality we sometimes ,(knowing the basic colours of the objects),just don't see that the colours are changing with the changes of external light.

Too much blue? Well maybe, but I think it works to emphasise the shape of the cogs and contrasts nicely with the orange rusty colours.

Hi Glenn, Thanks for attaching the original. I like the crop you choose, and having seen the original, find the tones in it more natural, and already quite spot-on... Looking at the difference, I think you did a good job, though. Maybe de-saturating the blue levels a notch would do the trick... Amazing thickness of the webs indeed, please disregard that comment...:)
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi John - Thanks for the comments - I just bought photoshop CS2 so I got a bit of learning to do - think I need to be a bit more subtle in some areasin the future. I liked the color combinations - maybe a bit to much though. CU Glenn

This is a beautiful composition and I especially like that touch of blue.
A minor point: to me the webs look perhaps just a little overemphasised as they seem to have rather lost their tone and texture.

Hi Hugo - I don't mind the critisim and I agree the blue is a bit strong. The cob webs are real however (and we have some quite nasty spiders in Australia). The photo was a closeup of an old tractor in a childrens play ground - maybe the park keeper should be spraying the webs.
Attached the original unprocessed image.
Thanks for your comments. Glenn

Hi Glen, Very well composted details, and I like the textures of the gears, quite old and well used, yet still in fairly good shape. I think the image quality is quite good, yet i have a feeling you overdid it just a wee bit on the post processing. The blue reflection seems a bit strong, and the cobweb has a rather artificial look to it. Hope you don't mind a bit of criticism...:)
Still, well captured, the soft and subtle spectrum that "leaks" from the gears add alot to this image. Good capture.
Cheers,
Hugo
