Stunning panoramic, Rina! The orange hues all the way to red look like molten lava, and those thin clouds are superb! How can you not shoot sunsets with such a view? I think I shot maybe 20 sunsets in all my life, but if I saw that wide burning horizon, I'd be doing just that! It radiates heat! Fantastic in the P-view, that's pure mind therapy :)

I am glad that you solved the answer you so desperately sought out! Though I was of no help whatsoever...I'll partake in that drink, but only if we are overlooking the Toowooboonaviotelcosceninges Mt. Ranges at the time :) *DON'T check my spelling :0) *

Agreed. Definitely NOT Flinders Ranges. That's the last time I ask a non-english speaking vagrant for directions. Honestly thought he was telling me the truth :P
From here on in, it shall be known as the "Toowoomba - Boonah - Teviot - Mt Welcome - Scenic Rim - Ranges"
At last we can put it to rest. Champas on the way... :))

PS - it can't be the Flinders Ranges because they are in the South Australian Outback....like waaaaay out there. You'd need a satellite spy cam to get that photo from Logan I would think.
Any last thoughts or words before we put this one to rest?
Cheers - Ann :)

I'm pretty much convinced now that it's Toowoomba cause that's 700 metres above sea level. About as much of a mountain as we can muster in that area (hehe). Toowoomba would be around 250klms west of Logan putting it within the viewing scale of your zoom lens I would think. I'm calling it Toowoomba.
Ciao for now, yasou and cheers - Ann :)

Ann, my mother would shrug and say, "Che?" :)):)) You can tell by the way her house is, shall we say, landscaped(?), that unless it's a massive Roman marble edifice.... ;)
But yes, I'm picking it's out that way. Keeping in mind that I'm using the zoom here. In the wide angle shots I took, the mountains are barely visible. Sky looks great but the burbs in the foreground spoil it, hence, I never posted any.
It looks as though it may be a case of "Flinders" Peak + Teviot "Range" = Flinders Ranges... so maybe the locals are trying to take the p*ss...? :))

Ohhhh I see...Google must be referring to Opera House Island. That big island out in the middle of the ocean that looks like a sea shell. (haha)
OK this is my last shot at this so I'm going to really blow out the cobwebs. I can remember directly west of the Logan area is the Warrego Highway heading west through Ipswich and on to Toowoomba which is on a hill so do you think you can see that far or those hills closer than Toowoomba? If that's any possibility then it could be the Bunya Mountain Ranges. Getting closer maybe? You know you're going to have call your mum cause this is driving me nuts now. I have to know. (haha)
Cheers - Ann :)

No, I mean, it's really 'OUT' out in the Tasman... :)) Like, if you hopped on the Manly Ferry (not that it goes to the Opera House, I don't think, but just as an example), it would take about three years to get there!!
Yup, back in NZ now. Just spent Chrissy with the folks. Was a much needed break.
Don't worry, the Opera House is still attached to the mainland so you won't have to eat your hat for that one either. However... from where I stand on the terrace up there, Tamborine and Springbrook are over my left shoulder and out of view. Now, if they moved those.........

One more post before I move on...I did confirm the Tasman Sea is in fact the entire large body of water between Australia and New Zealand. Thank goodness I don't have to eat my hat for taht one at least. (haha)

Oh Rina....Google isn't entirely incorrect placing the Opera House in the Tasman because Sydney is on the Tasman Sea (more commonly called the Pacific Ocean but that area is still officially called the Tasman) so that puts the Opera House right there. Are you back in NZ now? Did you go to OZ for Christmas?
Footnote.....I'll really eat my hat if I find out they've changed everything since I left home. (haha)
Cheers - Ann :)

Tanah Merah - nice area. That's southwest of Brissy. I have frinds who built a beautiful mud brick home there so now I know exactly where you are. That HAS to be Tamborine or Springbrook. Confirm it with your mum. She would know best. If she has the correct answer then she gets the champagne. (hehe) ....OR...we can always ask Ann Van Breeman (UF member) she lives on Tamborine. I haven't been there for 7 years so they might have moved things around since I last visited. You know..."they" decide they don't like that mountain where it is so they move it. (haha) ;)
Cheers - Ann :)

Hiya Ann! Was about to post a reply to your last comment when I got this one. Glad to see you're online!
My family's house is in Tanah Merah (Loganholme) which is almost half way between Brisbane City and the Gold Coast. So Mt Coot-Tha is north of that and probably behind us.
I downloaded Google Earth last night, in an act of desperation, and followed the line of sight out to Boonah. Best similarity to shape of the highest peak, elevation and distance appears to be Mt Welcome, which lies northern most on the Teviot Range.
Could be the locals got their 'ranges' mixed up!! :)) I'm not totally convinced of Google Earth's accuracy either though. Played around with it, looking up my old haunts in Sydney, and found it had placed a marker for the Opera House somewhere out in the Tasman!
So there ya go. Still very likely none the wiser, unless you can confirm...? But hey, you get the champas anyway! Cheers!!!

Oh I just had another thought...it could still be Mt Coot-Tha if you actually took the photo from the outskirts of Brisbane and the city high rises were behind you too. Still have my thinking cap on though. Not entirely convinced.
Cheers - Ann :)

My best guess would be, as I posted on your last sunset image, Mt Coot-Tha on the far right (I spelt it incorrectly on my last post) That is the mountain that is directly west and closest to the city of Brisbane. That would only be the case if the city was visible somewhere far right outside of this image as Brisbane city is quite close to the mountain (about a half hour drive). Geez...ya don't make it easy Rina. :)
Beaut shot though and beautiful colours.
Cheers - Ann :)

Another big WOW Rina my love. The sun has sunk but leaves it's mark in rusty reds and burnt orange with just those few lone clouds floating about above those wonderful silhouetted and, as yet, un-named mountains. Oh Get a grip Rina, pull out a map or plug in the internet... I was feeling quite poetic for a moment...Best wishes to my lovely Kiwi sheila, great big hugs...Ray
