It always amazes me how other people see my images differently from me.
Personally I prefer the one in portrait mode, but then I have the benefit of seeing these in full resolution modes on my PC at home rather than the restricted sizes on UF (this is not a criticism of UF)
I think the fact that all 3 images managed to get loaded into the critique page in succession may account for the voting. It wasn't really planned that way - it must have been quiet at the time.
Anyway, thanks for your comments. Thought provoking stuff.
Neil

I know that you are not asking for a vote on which of the three silhouetted trees, amazing how you were able to stir the emotions of the viewers and making them cast their votes. You did it because you have 3 good photos of a sunset taken differently. congratulations!!... may i cast my vote too.. : ) I go with the majority. this one.

I really like the shape of this tree branch, Neil, and the texture of the clouds in that beautiful sky. Dave.

I see that you are in competition with Japanese painters (Nihonga), because this is how this shot looks to me. A most beautifully shaped tree, all black bathing in a golden atmosphere - an Ode to sunset! Made it a favourite. YT

f9. Ahhh that defines the depth of field, my 828 doesn't go beyond f8 and thats a pain in silhouettes, because some thing will always go obviously out of focus.

Eddy,
I used F9 1/1700s. I think I had this on Manual although I do use Auto quite a bit.

This is definitely the best of the three you have posted. I like how you chose to zoom in on the one branch letting it stretch its way across the frame. That is truly a beautiful and golden sky. Nice work~

Of the 3 sunsets you posted I like this one the best from the thumbnail view for the unusual tree. I love the way it frames the sun. Beautiful colours in this image. It's stunning.
Cheers - Ann :)
