Beautiful image. Love how it takes your eye from the water straight up to the clouds. Excellent DOF. Love the reflection in the water. Very well seen and taken. Marilyn

Moises, thanks for the comments. The lens has a widest aperture of f/4.5 but this shot was taken at f/16 to get a full depth of field.
I use soft ND grads to give me some margin for error and then I just look through the viewfinder to see how far down the image the transition zone needs to be and try to gauge how far down the front of the lens that is. I've got pretty good at guessing and generally get it right every time now. It's best to push the grad down slightly too far and rely on the soft transition.

Congratulations, It is a very peacefull image I like your composition, how do you have such DOF with f/4.5 ?, I thing we have the camera the film and the lens in common.
Regards.

Congratulations! You went to a lot of effort and we are all rewarded by your success. I like wide-angle photos with extension of foreground detail - especially with such sharp and dynamic presentation.

Very good lighting. The blue cast on the mountains makes me think you might have done better to use a closer composition incorporating just the pond itself (and the reflections in it) rather than the skyline as well.

Thanks for the comments Marc. I'm glad you like the composition, I fiddled about with the position and height of the tripod for ages trying to get everything to fit into place. You're right about Velvia 100 exhibiting a preference for blues. It worked well in these images but I can imagine it may be a problem in warmer times. I might need a stronger warm-up.
My previous two cars were Audi Quattros and I really appreciated the value of four wheel drive! Not sure I could put up with the plasticky interiors of the Subarus though.
Thanks again..
Barry

Barry -- Nice wide angle perspective. I like the clear water and the fact that I can see the bottom in the foreground. Not sure if the slight colored cast at the second set of rocks just beneath the reflection is the lake bottom or a cloud being reflected, but it adds interest.

Very, very nice composition. I feel a great sense of balance and harmony in the scene as my eye drifts over the various beautiful elements captured here. I enjoy the tame color palette (by velvia standards) which helps emphisize the color and form of the reflected peaks. Just a little ice along the shore is an asset as well, even if it does wreak havoc on the roads. You know Subaru is making some really nice cars these days...
