About trees fell in the storms prior to this photo, but these three Alders continue to stand even though they are on a small piece of ground that splits the waters of Wildcat Creek into two channels and must be submerged at the base with heavy storms. The bright orange exposed bark of this Alder is a mystery to me: not the color, but why just one tree? Note that when the inner bark of the Western Alder is exposed to air it turns an orange-red. - Mister Ken

Weird it almost looks as if that tree were on fire ... it looks like it got pelted by rocks
