About	Today is my Usefilm Anniversary of my first post here. So another image goes up that was created before digital :) How did we ever survive back in the days before digital? I see a wind up clock with a big hand and a small hand, a small portable b&w tv with two knobs on it, that we actually had to turn and a manually operated camera! Scanned from an original print on Kodak double weight Polycontrast paper. Developed with two different negatives and hand masking. Self portrait 1972.

Thanks for going back so far in my portfolio Kanishka! It's nice when people go searching to look at other work besides the current images.
This is a very old self portrait, done in a darkroom. Two images developed on paper at the same time. Kodak tri-x film, I believe.
Nikon Nikkormat with 50mm lens. 1971 or 72.

Hi Fadel,
This one is a perfect example of what we were just talking about. I didn't bother posting this shot for more than a year because I thought it was, "fabricated and enforced" . Maybe it is... but it seems a few people liked it anyway :)
Sometimes we can't trust our own assessments I guess.

Hi Marco,
Thanks for your comments on this shot. As it turned out, this image was almost like a little time capsule. I can't say that I planned it that way :)
Yes it was made with two negatives. But not at the same time. I developed the image with my large silhouette and the tv screen first. Then I thought all the blank white space would be a good place to put another image. I experimented with the exposure times of the two negatives individually first and made a light sketch on the paper to position the images properly. First I exposed the image with the tv. When I did this exposure I masked off the area of the screen so that I could still use it for the second negative. Next I reverse masked the paper so that only the tv screen was being exposed to the second negative.
It sounds like a lot of work when you have to write it down, but it's pretty easy really. The results are sometimes more rewarding than simply sandwhiching two negatives together and exposing them at the same time.

i like this your selfportrait, Andre. i find it very hermetic and visionary.. as far as i like all debate which you are moving, with yourself and your UF friends, about the meaning of photography in this 'comsumption' age.

PS: by the way about "golden" age :-), but have you 'sandwiched' 2 negatives in order to obtain your full image in the TV ? i ask because i'm curious :-)

Hi Toni,
If you are using IE you can go to the Tools drop down box then Internet Options and delete all cookies. Then go to Settings and click on the line that says check for new versions every visit to the page.
I don't think you have to worry about individual pages that much. You can go to Tools, Internet options, Privacy and specify Usefilm.com to always accept new cookies. That might help too.
I doubt that these things will fix all of the problems you might be having because I think there are some bugs that have nothing to do with this. I don't think it will do any harm anyway. You might want to delete your off-line content of temp internet files too at the same time. I have to do this regularly because of my ancient hard drive.

Hi Toni,
You probably picked the best time to stay away from here. By the time you get back in the new year things will probably be fully sorted out. You might have to make a few changes to your set-up preferences and things. You have to dump your cookies for this site and re accept them apparently for all the changes to take effect.

Hi Andre! I wonder the same thing sometimes -- I can tell you that for me digital has made a huge difference. This is an interesting capture...takes some study. I like the feel. I'm sure when first made this image in 1972, I thought it was a little like "eye candy". Just fooling around in the darkroom with multiple images. But, with the passing of time, it becomes a little bit of history in a way. It is almost like a little time capsule of the way it was at the time. If the same shot was taken today by some 22 year old, it would be a Plasma screen tv, a digital clock and a Nikon D70s :)
I'm glad you liked it still over 30 years later.
