About A gift from a friend just back from Asia needed to be photographed, and needed something for scale. So, there it sits on a penny. Pushing the limits of the macro on my old and tired CoolPix950, and using a MagLight with torn tape over the glass to draw a shadow.

You gotta love little lights. Your playing with light has me going out and buying a couple of mag lights and building my own desktop studio/light box, whatever it is called. I realized yesterday that I "take pictures" while you play with light. I've only been at this a short time but I will play too, soon enough. I'm going to keep my monolith, despite the fact that it is a heavy mother. Cheers, Ron.

Superb! Love the scale of this. A very admirable macro. Great harmony of colors. Best of all is the lighting. Masterfully clever use of a maglite. Congrats!

Thank you! It's fun to use old cameras to get a vintage digital look! I do have other versions at with a smaller aperature, however, f2.8 just gave it that short depth to add to the macro feel. When I looked at this still on my monitor, and saw the cast shadow catching the soft focus, I fell in love. Thanks again!

Your Coolpix did a good work and you too! I like the DOF and the light, you could also use a smaller aperture, f/8 or f/11 if possible with your camera, to have a larger depth of field, anyway I don't dislike the blur effect. Bye, Max
