The softness is due mostly to it being a "matte finish" print. And then also to having a poor quality scanner. It is sharper for the most part in person. The focal point being the space between them - tried to be a little poetic but it doesn't come across in the scan.

Wonderfull portrait Sara, the expression of the man is really touching, the composition is very good, taking only in what you need, no more, no less, dividing the picture in two halfs, him and her. One thing: The picture is kinda soft, but it does add to the picture here, so I assume you did that intentionally?
