I know what you mean Andre . . . I thought of just using a generic 'Baby Giraffe' title but it really wasn't the point of the piece. Perhaps I should have used 'Where's Waldo?'...... I'm told the thumbnail looks like a spiderweb.
Well, que sera sera . . . thanks for commenting!

Hi again Doyle,
Another unusual nature capture. Congrats on the well deserved BIP

I just wonder how many people have passed over this great shot because the camouflage is so good that the baby doesn't show well in the thumbnails?
Kind of a catch 22 situation.

Doyle, congradulations on BIP. I like this image very much. Small nit in IMO, I would have liked to see the baby moved to the right just a bit. But in shots like this sometimes that is not possible, however I like this composition.

The white parts glow over dark regions but without letting those fractal contoures disapper. Quite thze contrary, they apper even stronger. And then the head of the young animal, camouflaged and still visible for the observer, well protected under the older, stronger animals, scans the world with the eyes of a child.

A simple composition and a very very strong result!

Only one more comment here. The upper limit of 7 is not enough for this photo!

Thanks Hugo . . . I had actually tried a number of crops . . . this was the one I thought would best fit the project, although I did have one I liked better which showed the strong, muscled forelegs on the leftside giraffe. The problem was the balance was thrown off unless I allowed more into the image which detracted from the project..... But thanks for commenting; I always know I've done kinda' well when I see your name on my critique roll call! By the way - the E-mail you sent was perfect, I had the Lighthouse re-worked, and it looks great!

Thanks John . . . I'd worry if you didn't have a critical point to bring up in your comments and I value them when and wherever you choose to apply them. I have, as you say, "upped the stakes" and quite frankly that is a result of looking at so many images and comments and getting some good comments (for encouragement) mixed with a healthy dose of critiques (for improvement) on my own images. I was scrapping some monkey pictures left and right the other day because I could see the problems I never would have noticed before (particularly overexposed areas). In short, thanks for your help.

Regards,
Doyle I <-----

Hi Doyle,

Cool B&W camouflage in this photo, and a very clever and creative addition to the spotlight project...

I like the almost abstract quality of the photo, justifying the B&W conversion, I think. Looking at it, I think you could maybe have increased that abstract quality by cropping off the recognisable features (except for the baby giraffe, of course, that's the finishing touch in this photo) Per attached an alternative comp. Not sure if this image is ideally fitted for this type of composition, but I just couldn't suppress the idea...:)

Nice work! Saw you lured your wife to join too! Nice going...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Doyle! I'm sorry but you're uploading far too much for me to comment on everything, so please excuse me if I just pick out those that really catch my eye.

And this one certainly did. As an image of "giraffe" patterns it is wonderful, but to have the head of the baby giraffe in there as well is just perfect.

Picky as ever, I'll comment on the chain link fence at the bottom - you might consider getting rid of this.

But overall I'd say this is one of the most striking shots I've seen in a while. You seem to have really upped the stakes in the last month or so...

John

That's really the point (confusion) Ismael.....camoflauge makes the view of the baby very difficult. With the adults 12 feet taller . . . he needs protection from predation. It;s an interesting image (as you suggest) anyway.
