About Bet most people see this and drive on as it's just next to a passing point on the road over Hardknott Pass.

Alastair and I both had fun here, both got wet feet and fell over a few times - the joy!

This was stupidly long really - about 15 seconds, so all the leaves are soft with their movement in the wind

It's the colout I like.

See below for 2 other crops of the same shot AND PLEASE tell me which one of the 3 you like best :-)

thanks for this Lily, it's always interesting to see how other people see an image. I'd never have really thought of cropping "on" the lower waterfall - it seemed to me as a whole entity that either stopped or went, but looking at what you've done has opened my eyes. Cropping unconventionally, if it is unconventional... there#'s a debate in itself, can give yet another dimension to an image.

Feel free to crop any other shots :-)

I agree with Lily's crop seeing how the slight ripples at the bottom help the continue the image out of the frame without offering closure...

I just commented on Alastair's version of the same place.

Tried a compromise to include the bottom of waterfall. My crop pushes the boulder back into the middle but since it blends in with its surroundings maybe that's not a huge problem? I also think the waterfall behind it pulls the eye away from the rock some. My eyes follow the water to the source instead of resting on the boulder. Hope that makes sense. Beautiful autumn shot btw.

Cheers Den - we stopped at this place to let a car past and ended up there for 1/2 an hour. I've had 3 awards on EPZ as a result!!!!

Hopefully the 4th I've posted today will get there too....

Got a long message from Steve, he's fine - just tied up with work and lots of courses away from home so he hasn't got the access he'd like to a PC.

He's raring to go with the 20D though, even bought some filters on EBAY - without me badgering him either!!!

Just wondering whether my posting 3 crops and discussing the merits of each was of any use really... I do with there with the crop tool going over lots of things like that so thought I'd share the thought process.

Yep, definitely the main one Ade. The foreground in the others is just too overpowering. If I'd opened a book and seen any one of them though I would have recognised them as yours. That style is unmistakeable. Terrific shots as always.
Den
PS Have you seen or heard from Steve lately?

cheers Ellen - when you say "the one above", do oyu mean the main one? Just that they are all "above" your comment.

I was curious to see whether people agreed with my choice of post or not. You're the only one who's said so far :-(

I like the one above the most. IMHO this shot has a lot of movement and energy, when you add in the aggressive movement of the water in the foreground it just becomes overwhelming. The colors are grand. I like this shot very much and have put it in my favs.

This one's the lower crop, gets more of the moving water in there, has the best water lines of the 3 but kind of missed out on all the bright dolours and the light at the top of the shot.

So the main shot won the crop comp

This is the full frame.

The problem with this is that the focal point it bang in the middle of the shot so a compositional no-no in my book.

tyhe components are right, but I just didn't like the bullseye effect
