About Played with the settings on my camera to see what setting would do what. Have not a clue what the setting was for this shot - but I liked it and decided to post as it was.

Thanks Tiff - Love your recent shots of Gabe - he just gets cuter and cuter every day! Going to spend some time looking through some of my friends portfolios. Was so discouraged that I hadn't been able to upload anything decent using a different camera, but, my spirits are higher now. PS - went to the camera shop and played with the Digital Rebel XT and it felt really good in my hand. I understand it has been getting really good reviews. Now, if I can just contact someone on usefilm that actually uses one to get some input. Jan

I like this Jan! Great angle, nice simplistic feel to it. I like how the focus is on the petal furthest away.

You are right Michael - the lighting was fairly low - but had taken other shots in that room with the same lighting without any problem. As I said - I had been messing around with the different buttons and haven't a clue as to which one I landed on before I took this. I had been shooting outside on landscape/people and it is possible that I left it there and forgot to turn it back to the flower icon. Thanks for your help - I will try and do whatever I did then again and see what happens. Jan

Pretty soon you will be playing with insects and water droplets too...

Janice:

The blur comes from a low F-STOP, depth of field (DOF). Pop on over to my recent posts and you will see lots of samples of DOF macro work. Let me know if you have questions.

Seems to me there was not a lot of light so the camera was using a low F-stop to pull in light.

Oh boy Mary - jump in the boat with the rest of us that "see other things" in a photo. Still haven't figured out how I got this shot to be soft and blurry. Guess I need to push buttons more and remember which ones I pushed. LOL Jan

MCHK 2000 - If you will go back through my portfolio I believe that you will find that the majority of my florals are top view. I have been trying to do something a little different - probably should have posted all three side view florals on the same evening. Will try and mix them up in the future. Appreciate your comment. It looks like the one is trying to catchthe first one. Are they playing tag? Looks good, Janice.
