Oh be still my heart! This is pure poetry. The bird is such a beautiful work of art all by itself, but you have really captured the essence of its grace. The curved sweep of its tail feathers and the blurred flutter in the wings, along with the posture of the bird is superb. The extremely narrow DOF resulting in a near solid background really sets the bird off well -- it just pops off the page. Congrats on the very much deserved award and on being featured today. 7+ and a fav. :) Antonia

An amazing shot. Thanks for showing me a bird I have never seen and may never see in real life. The motion blur--or is it the effect of shallow DOF--in the wingtips is just perfect.

Thanks Darlene. I don't know what he does when he's not using that long tail. I suppose it's probably the same thing a middle aged guy does when he's not driving his red Corvette though. :)

James Hager   {K:6285} 5/31/2005
Thanks Petal. I agree that some more space around him would be nice. I had selected the AF sensor to shoot him while he was perched, then he flew. On his way back to his perch, he stopped to hover in front of a female, and I didn't have time to switch AF sensors before firing, so that's why he's so close to the top.

Yeah, Pat, the blurry part of the wing is just outside the frame. I had selected the AF sensor to shoot him while he was perched, then he flew. On his way back to his perch, he stopped to hover in front of a female, and I didn't have time to switch AF sensors before firing.

Super shot!!! Great 'mid-air freeze', excellent DOF and good composition (a little bit more 'air' on top would've been even better, but you can't have everything.... ;-D)... well captured!!
