This male Ground Hornbill, also known as a Southern Ground-Hornbill, was out hunting with his mate and an almost-adult chick. He currently has two frogs and a small snake in his beak. When he came across a new prey item, he?d put down the items in his beak, snag the new item, then pick up the ones that he had put down.
What a wonderful portrait of this bird. He has an almost aristocratic, aloof kind of look... and your description of his behaviour imparts a sense that this bird is some kind of high-class toff strolling through Fortnum & Mason picking up some delicacies. Amazing!
Oh my goodness James! Usually the males are so much prettier but not in this case. And the poor guy looks absolutely bored.....but it is a wonderful image. It made me smile, thanks!
