It could help your focus to use stand-in object to focus on, then move it out of the way and take your spot, Amanda. Keep shooting!!

Great self portrait Amanda, I love the composition of the way your arms lead up. You have amazing eyes, I agree with Steve I like the black pupil and catchlight. Keep them coming. Kristin

Hi again Amanda...
Thank you very much for your very kind comments on my portfolio - and for adding me into your friends. I feel very special :)
...hope you don't mind - just did a b&w conversion and replicated your spot colouring to the original to see how it looked without the filter. I made the pupils and the catchlight the expected tones too... see what you think...
Thanks again :) Steve

You're starting to get right into this 'spot of colour' thing. I think it's certainly a unique and interesting effect you've created but I still prefer the original. Sometimes you just have to push the boundaries though don't you.

Thanks Kel, I'm glad you liked it...and I must admit I don't really like seeing myself either, but I thought I would do some experimenting to see what I came up with. I wasn't going to even put it on UF, but then I thought, how am I going to learn, if I don't put myself up for critisim...I need all the help I can get! Amanda

A big THANK YOU to you Steve for your in depth comment. As this is a first for me with this style, I really value your comment, especially about leaving the pupil black and the catchlight white. I have attached the original photo...uncropped and in colour. As you will notice I have yet to master a clear self portrait...but I am working on it! Thank you again!! Amanda

Hi Amanda -
Very nice portrait. i would realy like to see a version of this that is not blurred though - because i really think the composition and the spot colour work stands up for itself without the additional texture filter.
Once brief comment - i notice that in the eyes, the tone actually extends over the pupil - and also colours the catchlight in the eyes. I think it might be nice to see with the pupil black and the catchlight white - it would lend for a more natural look. selective desturation using a spnge tool or a mask in PS would get it back.
I have been having a look through your portfolio - you have some very good work... am off to check some more out in detail... :)
Keep 'em coming :)
Kindest regards
Steve
