Pete-
I often crop the top of the head as it isn't the focus of the shot. There's so much more to draw your eyes. :)

Very nice lighting and a pleasant, flattering pose. I really hate to see the top of the head cropped unless it adds to the impact of the shot. I think it works in this case, but a full head shot might be more pleasing......or did you assume our eyes would be focused toward the bottom of the photo anyway? Very fine work. Regards.

It just amazes me to see a picture with the clarity of medium format and find out that it was taken with a 35mm or equivalent digital camera. ESPECIALLY when using a wide-open aperture...must be ED glass. :) This is a nice shot...the color in the eyes and the skin tones is superb. I would've shown a little more of the hair on the top of her head, though. The cropping of her right shoulder is a matter of taste, really, because it doesn't seem to detract from the overall image...it's just something I happen to notice. Been looking at your portfolio, and you've got some really nice shots in there. Keep up the good work, guy! :)

Petros,
I hate to give away all my secrets (just kidding), but the lighting is incredibly simple. This was shot with late afternoon sun (with the model in open shade) and a very large (6 x 4) white reflector about 10 feet to the camera's right and about 5 feet above lens axis. Plus a smaller silver reflector (52" round) placed to about 5 feet to the camera's left and 4 or 5 feet above the lens axis. The white reflector reflected full afternoon/evening sun. The silver reflector reflected VERY LITTLE direct sunlight, but just kinda filled in the model's right side a bit. Give it a shot, it works very well :)
P.S. Everybody is qualified to complement my work...hehehe

By no means am I qualified to make an educated comment on this photo. What I can do is tell you what drew me to this photo... a/ the lighting, b/ the eyes, c/ the lighting, d/ the model, and you guessed it... e/ the lighting...
Fantastic job! I wish I can take a photo like this in the next decade or two...

Chris...nice shot! The eyes are extremely captivating. I really like the sharp focus on her face...it holds my eye. I also like the warm, golden light. We must be neighbors! Need an assistant? I could learn a lot from you!!

Beautiful photo. I love the lighting, the warm golden cast truly enhance the shot. That with her eyes make the shot great. The eyes have picked up some of the gold tones and come right back at you. Thanks for sharing.

Jason, I think it's the fact the eyes are going right through you. That's what it does to me. I feel it! Uneasy!

I like the lighting for this shot but a couple quick comments: I wouldn't crop quite so tight on the model - perhaps a little more head-room and more of her left arm. In addition, for some strange reason I can't tell where she is looking !! It's weird but HER eyes make MY eyes move around the frame in an odd fashion. Perhaps I've eaten too much Halloween candy tonight... In any case, a nice addition to the portfolio !! JCB :)
