About After some sunny days during our last vacation, sky clouded in the afternoon. A strange, mystic feeling, hard to convey photographically. I hesitate with the upload because it looks somewhat artificial and does not meet my good intentions to make more natural looking shots.
Technically, the original RAW shots were quite flat, but with wide dynamic range (two narrow histogram peaks, 3 stops apart: mountain and sky). I made thre shots, handheld with polarizer, exposure bracketing (exposed for the sun area and + 1 and + 2 stops). PS for one TIFF of the mountains and four TIFFs of the sun area / sky to make the dynamic range of the scenery visible.

I love this composition. It captures the mystic beauty and power of nature. I love how the mountain ridge is oulined sharply again the stormy sky and how you've included just enough of the land to strenthened the drama in the sky. Beautiful... Andre

Now THAT's a great sky! This is really a beautiful shot. These mountains remind me so much of the ones I just drove past shooting out the car window in the Owens Valley, California! Alas, the sky was a bit boring for mine. Congrats to you! Antonia

Thilo, thanks for your evaluation - I must admit, I am not perfectly satisfied myself with the transition zone. When I have a little more time over Eastern I will try a go round with selections and feathering. But from time to time I think I should better go out and make photos instead of fiddling with PS ;-)

Hi Carsten,

you're multiple TIFFs technique is really breathtaking. especially your work on the skies is fascinating. In this picture, the transition between mountain and sky looks a bit weird IMHO. But I know that nature sometimes IS weird ;-)

excellent mood. keep up the good work... and the good intentions.

best wishes and thanks for the recent feedback,

Thilo

Very dramatic, you're right the conditions are almost unbelievable, but good work capturing the powerful atmosphere. Both the composition and lighting are superb.

Barry, thank you for stopping by ! Manual alignment with PS this time, with layers and the move tool in 300% view. An alternative is Panotools, with the PtGUI interface program (allows stitching of 48bit TIFFs with 100% overlap).

Really a good job Carsten!
I don't care too much if there is too PS or not.

You've done a spectacular image, very close (IMO) to what your eyes have recorded in that moment.

Best Regards. Fabio

Wonderful and impressive. The mountain and clouds work really well together, both emphasising each other. Perfect work on the contrast as always.
