An image shot alongside the almost dry Vaigai river in Madurai during the Chitrai festival . This man standing alone was really absorbed in his prayers..
MADURAI Known as the Athens of the East, Madurai, the second largest city in Tamil Nadu is situated on the banks of the river Vaigai It is said that the people of the city wake up, not by the call of nature but at the chant of hymns at the temple. While the major festivals of Tamil Nadu are celebrated here with gaiety that equals the rest of the state, the most important moment in Madurai is the Chitrai festival that is held in April/May, when the celestial marriage of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar is celebrated, drawing a huge crowd of people from all over the state.
Great capture Claude. Even though there are so many people there i imagine a silence - pherhaps because of this mans concentration with his talk to his God. Nice light and smooth colours.
Really a beautiful photo, well composed and with the man absorbed in his prayer. I appreciate a lot the three shapes reflected in the river... Congratulations! Carla
