Jim, I'm giving you an Excellent on this shot. It's really lovely with the soft reflections on the lonely bud. Like the title as well. -- Debby

Lovely shot Jim ... after cropping about the half of the area above the flower :) Gorgeous lighting!

I think this is gorgeous! Sometimes less sharp is exactly what makes a picture beautiful. The bud emerges from the dark, but there's a hint of light in the background, like it's breaking through the darkness, coming into the light. Very bittersweet. I love it!

nice composition, nice mood... but it's a pity it's so "blurry", i mean "unsharp"... but i like it as a whole... redards

Chris, I cant remember if I used matrix or center weighted metering on this. It may have been center weighted because I was sometimes using my flash for fill light on some shots. Normally I would have used spot metering, but on this day I think not.
Going to have to start taking a note book with me so I can record my settings.
Thanks for the comment

I like the composition but I am finding the exposure to be a bit of a problem. The white part of the flower is overly blown out which I am finding distracting. Did you use matrix metering for this? If so next time try spot metering on the flower it?s self and let the background go a bit darker

Hi Jim, I normally do not comment on florals, as they are not my favourite theme, but when I saw this one as a thumbnail, I couldn't resist; The dark tones of the background make the bud seem to pop out of the image beautifully. Very creative indeed. I also like the off centered composition, it makes it slightly less straight forward. But the DOF, leaving the leaf recognisable as such without breaking the relation to the flower bud makes it tick. Very well captured!

Cheers,

Hugo
