Ahhh, I see. If it was a product shot, you'd want the blur I suppose. I think it's a wonderful shot and the blur would keep the incredible background setting without taking your eye off the subject for variation -love the fall look with the dress being so rich. I would also watch the shoes with that, (the clunky black shoe doesn't go with the delicate, rich dress - but I'm a girl). Well done Kim.

Hi Cheryl
I actually removed a fellow standing back there by the fence and thought about removing the fence itself, but left it in. The short lens gives a larger depth of field here, I wanted some excuse for the eye to wander back into the photo. I sometimes get a bit eye-fatigued with in-your-face subjects in photos.
Thanks for the comment. Kim.

I like Cheryl?s blur, that?s just what the image needs. It?s a great model, the dress is beautiful too, but it?s needing some blur. It?s recommended to use a lens between 105 and 185 mmm for portrait picture, that should give you less distortion and the most important thing, the blur in the background. For digital photography is more difficult to achieve the blur because i?ve read that digital cameras have like 5 steps more of depth of field, that means you need to use even longer lens to achieve the desired blur effect. So the options are the lens or the post-production blur in PS.
Best regards!

Is this a product shot? I love the dress (again) but my eye keeps going back to the white fence behind her. Did you try a blur on this in Photoshop? I did a quick example for you to see...
