Wow Phillip. Great DOF. Might have been more of an impact if you decreased the brightness and contrast for the BG a tad (my opinion, of course) . . . to make the subject 'pop' a bit more. I see you're in Torrance, at least on ocassion. We're practically neighbors!

Congratulations Philip for the awardand great portrait! It tells a life story, and the colors and DOF just add to it. I like the relationship of the green of her dress to the green of the fruit in the background, but it's her eyes, mouth and expression that really matter. Excellent documentary! Ina

Wonderful storytelling portrait.
The background provides a neat subtle repeated rainbow-colored-and-curved effect (there is probably a real photographic term for this) to the left of her face. It's more obvious in the thumbnail. Anyhow, I think it somehow assists in making me think "She radiates life".
Wow, posted in 2001. Maybe it's a good idea to rethink deleting those old images.

My favorite thing about this image is the background. It's a striking conveyance of context for your main subject. It doesn't distract, but tells a story. I can hear the market sounds. Very artfully set up. Thank you for sharing this inspirational image.

I would have warmed this image up a bit, I know it was an overcast day, but it's now in digital format, I think her skin tones and texture would have popped more with a touch of magenta, but still a nice image.

A page stopper. If I were flipping through an old magazine

as mentioned last night on usefilm live....this image is OUTSTANDING......frame is perfect...pose and expression in flawless...lighting is exquisite...the mimic of the background abstract to the foreground woman is uncanny...both in shape/form and in color.....THIS PICTURE HAS MORE BALLS THAN IT KNOWS WHAT TO DO WITH.......
