You got it Sue. It's the Nevada Nuclear test range. They are subsidence craters from underground detonations.

Looks like a surface crater from underground nuclear testing. There appear to be several of them in this vicinity. Utah? New Mexico?

I was going to say it's a shell crater on a military firing range, but Steve Kompier sounds like he's confident of his answer, so I'm doubting my answer now.
