About I've worked on two coffee table books on submarines. The US Navy cleared all shots prior to publication. Sonar was the most sensitive part of the ship we photographed. Some pieces of equipment had to be excluded, and monitors displayed test patterns. Shot on a tripod in a corner, exposures of 30 seconds to 1 minute under ambient light.

Excellent! Nothing to pick on, here, and pretty much the type of lighting I like personally. First time I see this kind of work on such sites: that's great...

Steve! A most excellent capture here man. I like the color here. And the sharpness is very good. I can just imagine the hoops you had to jump through to get this one. Nice one man.

Ye Gods!!!

I spent 20 years in the Navy as an airborn sonar operator. It was always too cold and too dark. Wether it was on the airplane or on a ship. I've spent many hours doing what these poor guys are doing, sitting and staring at a screen or a paper readout. By the end of your shift, you are ready for a bucket of Visine in the eyes. Now, about the photo, I'm amazed that you got these guys to pose absolutely still for over 30 seconds. That's got to be the hardest part. I did notice that the negative appears to be reversed. The center operator's sleeve shows his rate (chevron) on his right arm, but it is supposed to be on his left arm. Looking closer at all the operators in the picture, you can see various corners of their chevrons also, just not as noticable. The Navy only wears their rank on one arm, the left arm. It's a small technical detail, but for anyone that has ever served in the Navy, it stands out like a sore thumb. Other than that, this is an exceptional photograph taken under some really difficult conditions.

WoW! Go Navy :) This is excellent Steve. Which books have your work in them? I'd love to see them in print.

Hey! Great shot!

I remember George once talking about taking a similar shot, you should definately tell him to look at this one.
