Nancy, I like your second version. I agree, the cropping has really helped the balance. You now have a great shot. I hope to see more postings from you.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your kind suggestions. I went back to my friend, Photoshop, and made a few changes. First of all, I used Filter/Unsharp Mask to sharpen the image as several commented the image was too soft. I think this helped. Thanks, Paul, for the pictoral example. Nice picture. I recropped the image to give it better balance. I have other pictures of this subject with an unobstructed view, but I like the play of very dark against light and the "cutting of the vertical plain by the leaves in the photo. This is just a personal preference. I tend toward a greater timber than the normal eye. I have posted my modified pic. Thank, again to all of you who commented.

a little soft or out of focus.. the tree branch is ok :) maybe if the branch was a little more to the right it would be better but nice shot..i added a photo I took which has a tree also but it is more to the right of the monument

The focus is just a tad soft, I'm not sure if sharpening in a PS would help or not. The composition isn't that bad overall, but the tree branch does distract a bit. Keep on shooting!

Your image is quite soft and could stand to be sharpened in a photo editing application or just in sharper focus period. The tree branches intersecting the monument is less than ideal. Normally you want to position yourself so that you have an unobstructed view. Perhaps this was beyond your control. Having the monument centered isn't ideal composition wise as it doesn't convey the strongest visual impact. One thing to consider is that lowering your perspective can sometimes allow you to see thing a little differently. Maybe this would have helped you duck below the branches. Shifting the frame a little lower might also have allowed you to capture more of the reflection in the water. Just a few ideas that might help you the next time you shoot something similar.
