About very sharp negative, I feel f8 is the sharpest for the canon 50 fd.

The horses name is actually...Who. Hence the title.

Usally after scanning an image at work I add the unsharp mask. Turn it up just enough to make it as sharp as the negative. This should help after you scale it down to a 200k file. Also in photoshop ImageAdjustLevels you can change the mids from 1.0 to 1.10. That usally helps alittle with clarity and sharpness. My scanner I have at home is nowhere near professional (it cost under $100), so I always have to adjust it to look like the actual picture.

Phil, the easiest way to get your size down is to conver the image to grayscale and than change you resolution to something in the neighborhood to 150-72 dpi. All of my scans are on a drum and range anywhere from 300MB to 150MB. Changing your dpi will do it.

There is a way phil and it's relatively easy.......are you scanning from the neg or print?

I'm limited to a 200 kb image, which basically leaves the image holding no detail. At least I haven't mastered the technique on how to get a good 200kb image from a 30 meg master, so you can see all the whiskers on his chin.. As far as the cropping goes, thanks for the constructive comments, but I deliberately cropped the original and made the upper frame open to concentrate solely on the eyes. And the contrast was to try and isolate the subject.

imaginative perspective....good use of distortion.......contrast too much....white background too blown out and not enough detail on his face.....should be able to feel his hairs this close......no texture and this would work so well if it was there...also shouldnt have chopped into ears so tightly.......
Love to see other frames of this or a redo to pull all that together.......creative idea and nice attempt.....
