Well, the real locomotive on white snow was looking good, Yen. What it looks on the image is another story, and a much less nice looking story.
Cheers!

Thank you so very much for the info and the link, Andre! Really, at least remarkable!! I can only share your enthusiasm for such images!
The photos remind me a bit of the lensbaby but tehy have something very special at the same time, that is not only the effect of a lensbaby. And here I still have to search and wonder what does that "aged" look and feel consists of? I thought it was mainly that kind of softer focus but it can't be only this. It must be the sum of all partial effects of tonal range, focus, subject, grain, etc, etc. It can't be attributed to some "quick and easy" recipe, I guess. A good thing to examine a bit closer.
Thanks a bunch again!!!
Nick

Hi Nick, On the subject of "aging". I bought a copy of the latest magazine called "B&W" There is a small portfolio by a guy named Peter Liepke. Here is a url to his site. http://www.peterliepke.com/ He is a contemparary photographer that works with old processes. His images are amazing. I swore they came from 1907 instead of 2007. The images that he has in the magazine are fantastic. He comes from Minnesota, but does a lot of images in New York City. Interestingly, he uses a 100 year old camera with lenses that he has altered himself to keep the focus in the center and keep the rest of the image in a dream like blur. He prides himself in the craftsmenship that it takes to produce his images. Check them out. I think you will like them. Andre

I also don't have the impression of "aged" here, Andre, and as I see most guys think the same about it. So this definitely puzzles me a lot, since sometimes a soft focus does introduce an "aged" look and sometimes not. When does it do that? This is what I would really wish to know. I examine this systematically now, but I don't get a single thing yet. :-/
I did already try shots with old films and some results were astonishing to me. Some of them I will be posting in future. They really look as if one had applied much of filtering with PS, and I have some few "rules of thumb" about the expected result - not really sharp rules, but one can say some general qualitative things about what the image will look like according to its age and brand.
Cheers!

Hi Nick, I don't really think this succeeds as an "aged" look image. Most people would probably view it as simply soft focus or even out of focus. As we know, there are a lot of ways to manipulate the image post process, but I know your preference for obtaining the intended result in the camera as much as possible. Have you ever tried using very old film to get a distressed or aged look? I've heard somewhere that some people look for very old film stock that is years passed the best before date in order to get some distressed look when developed. Of course, you wouldn't really have any predictability with that method. But it would be interesting. There are probably other things that can be done in the darkroom to create faded off colour images too. Andre

Thank you very much, Bubai!
The "aging" still needed refinement.

Thanks a lot Aziz!
Still on the way of how to let them look aged without the usage of retouching.
Cheers!

I like the colour and composition, Nick, but possibly the aging would be easier done in PP work. Dave.
