@rebecca: i made a series with different times of exposure from 5 to 20 seconds. this was a 12 sec shot, but i could only name 15 sec here. in my experience, the correct time of exposure is not so difficult to find as long as you did not use slide-films. i made nearly 40 pictures this evening with different exposures and f-steps but only a few were overexposed or too dark.

WOW..perfect composition! I see this was a 15 second shot..How did you arrive at that time? Did you bracket or are you just experienced enough to know the approximate time for exposure? I tried a few night shots that failed miserably. I came to the conclusion I'd have to do a lot of bracketing and practice.

Another excellent night/train picture from you. I think the composition is just perfect, no need for more smoke and less foreground, since I think that the foreground 1. leads the eye into the picture to the trains. 2. functions a'lead out' for the trains, it shows where they are going to.

Thank you all for your pleasant comments. Like to answer some questions:
@Robert: The smoke effect is just the result of the exposure time.
@Colin: The groundcolour is "real", nothing changed with PS or something. I think it depends on the film and his reaction to the wavelenghts of the lights, which was used at this station. Using the same film, I got totally different colour effects at different locations at night.
@Alex: Thank you very very much for this remark.
@Olaf: Schön Dich hier auch zu sehen. Noch ein Fotoforum? Danke für den Tipp, war mir bislang unbekannt. Das alte SIG hat mir besser gefallen, dann schau ich doch jetzt mal dort...
@David: Sorry, didn't know that the steam would get so high at this moment.

One of my fewer 77777 here in usefilm. Perfect in every aspects. Composition impecable working very well the diagonal creating a intersting vanishing point that invite the viewer to come in into the photo in direction of the trains. Lighint, wonderfull with perfect exposure time, complete original shot and with a wonderfull emotional appeal. Flawless work. The photo is so beautiful and perfect that seems that you have choosed exactly the position of the trains and elected the time to get this photo. Congrats. Regards, Alex.

Very good,,, was the foreground this colour or did this suffer a little reciprocal failure???,, it doesn't matter really as the colour looks good, it's just that a lot of members use lessons learnt here to improve their own work.
