About This is actually one of my favorites - never has seemed to get the response on the critique sites that compares -- which is usually the case with me! LOL

Stark and packed with feeling, a very unsual portrait. Risky overexposure really works. Deserves a lot of attention.

This is the kind of shot that you either like it or hate it. For me i feel it is rather dramatic and emotive, seem to be shouting for attention. regards

Ronald - thanks for your comment, but I think that I am trying to avoid as much of the midtones in the body of the face to reinforce a sense of flatness - a "cubist-like" perspective and shape. The lighting around the face was original - very flat - so I pushed it in the middle of the face to get that result. But I like what you said, because it has been what has been suggest to me before, its just not what I was going for. Thanks again, I do appreciate it!

i know your going for a huge contrast between light and dark here, but i still think the contrast is a little too strong. you might want to aim for some more midtones around the cheekbones and the corner of the nose. i love the expression! this is great, everything is a 7/7 except for lighting, but that is often just personal taste. so keep up the good work! helping us become better photographers,

-Ronald

p.s. please take a look at my portfolio
